The Arc of Tri-Cities was started 70 years ago as a grassroots organization by parents of children with developmental delays and intellectual disabilities. The agency started with socialization programs which met the parent's needs to interact with other parents and also provided opportunities for their children to connect with peers. The agency has evolved through the vision of parents and self-advocates - creating opportunities for a life that supports each person's hopes and dreams. The Arc of Tri-Cities has grown into an agency that provides 15 programs serving 1,343 children and adults who have developmental disabilities.
Within the array of programs, The Arc provides several programs that are unique in their focus on bringing children and teens who have special needs together with their peers in both school and recreational activities. The Buddy Program, for local junior and senior high schools, eliminates the isolation of Special Education with inclusive social activities. Partners N Pals provides a summer camp for all children, with and without developmental delays, for sports, activities and fun. The Arc of Tri-Cities is a leader in developing opportunities for all members of the community to realize their life goals.
