"Serving Individuals with Developmental Disabilities and their Families since 1950"
|
A peer mentoring and friendship club open to all
|
The Buddy Club seeks to pair one teen
with a disability or special need with two to
three teens from their high school or
middle school. In addition to providing
recreational opportunities, the club’s
purpose is to bring inclusion for teens with
developmental disabilities into the general
population of their schools. Through this
inclusion, the teens with disabilities have
the prospect of gaining additional
friendships, social skill development and
increased independence.
This is a unique club that is based on
friendship! The purpose of The Buddy
Club is to develop new friendships and
have participants commit to contacting
each other during the school year on a
regular basis. Sign up with a friend to be
a friend! Monthly activities are planned
for all participants in the Tri-Cities. Some
of the activities the buddies enjoy are
dances, sports events, movies, and
lunches. The Buddy Club is a great
opportunity to reach out to others in your
high school.
